Cassie Dannacher wakes up in a hospital over 1,000 years into the future after her space capsule is retrieved from space. She soon learns that 600 years prior to her arrival, the earth was struck by a plague, killing over half of the world’s population. Naïve and desperate, Cassie, who longs for home and is having trouble adjusting to the new, dictatorial 31st century government, is comforted by Michael Bennett, the 20-year old lead geneticist at the hospital where she was revived.

But why is Cassie in genetics’ hospital in the first place, and why do several of the people around her seem so familiar, including Travel Carson, the hot and edgy boy she is fated to meet? Soon she discovers there is a sinister answer to all of her questions – and that they want something from Cassie that only she can give.

A roller coaster full of plot twists

Mirror X by Karri Thompson is a cup of Sci-Fi Young Adult story with a tablespoon of Romance. Placed in a futuristic world where “Life is precious” and humanity have its days counted. Thompson bring us an exciting story about what humans are capable of do just to survive. Be sure of have free time once you start this story, because once you read it, you won’t want to put it away.

This book wasn’t ordinary at all. It was different to all the Sci-Fi novels I’ve read before, I don’t know if I’ve read enough Sci-Fi novels to really know what the heck I’m talking about but these are some of the things I liked about the first book in The Van Winkle Project Series –which if you didn’t know it took its name from a short story by Washington Irving, Rip Van Winkle.

Cassie Dannacher was a seventeen years old girl in 21th century when she died of brain death after a horrible accident. One thousand years later she wakes up in a world she doesn’t know at all. Now she has to adjust to this new society and try to find her place in this new world by herself.

Which she doesn’t know is that her awakened wasn’t for no reason. The humanity is at risk, and she, a woman born before the plague, is the one and only chance they have to save it.

You and this world have something in common, though. Life stopped and then started again. And just like this planet, you’ve been given a second chance. You’re going to make this world a better place.

Doctor Michael Bennet has spent all his life trying to find a way to save human kind. And before Cassie’s awakened he is 100% sure he finally found it, but now she is here alive and breathing, and not just a sleeping beauty. He finds himself, regretting some of the choices he made before he knew her and not being quite sure about the choices he will have to make later.

When his lips met mine, every atom in my body danced, urging me to pull him closer and tighten my grip upon his back.

I don’t think I can’t say much about this book without spoiling it for you guys. The story is pretty intense from the beginning. From the moment Cassie is awaked it becomes a roller coaster full of plot twists, each one more amazing than the prior.

I was hanging by a thread the entire reading; I didn’t get a lot of sleep that night but it was worth it. Because the world created by Karri Thompson is exceptional and not impossible to exist. Believe, as a future scientist myself I found myself most of the time wondering if some of the things described in the book were actually possible and, in fact, they are.

Don’t miss out the opportunity to be introduced to this futuristic parallel world. For Claudia Gray and Renee Collins fans, Mirror X is a book that you won’t regret to read.
